The Tree

If you're Australian, chances are Christmas smells like sunscreen and salt water.

Growing up in Geraldton, that's exactly what it was. All day in the surf, barbecues, balmy summer nights. The kind of Christmas that belongs entirely to this coast.

So when the City of Greater Geraldton invited twelve artists to transform wooden trees for a Christmas Tree Trail along Marine Terrace, I painted mine the only way I know, with the sea. Ocean blues on silver, hand-painted layers that caught the light. Flowing, circular, alive.

Made by the sea. For the sea. A small reminder, even at Christmas, to love and care for the ocean that shapes this place and everyone who grows up beside it.
