While painting this work, a baby orca appeared in the circle. Not planned. Not placed. It simply arrived, as things do when you stop trying to control what comes through.
I helped it along a little. That felt like the right thing to do.
The orca carries a particular wisdom. Playful and deep at once. A reminder that knowing yourself doesn't have to be serious, that the inner life has room for joy, curiosity and the unexpected surfacing of something wild.
This work is from the Seashell SoulCircle series, oil on canvas with sea salt and foraged seashells collected from the beach in front of my studio in Geraldton. The shells are held within the circle, each one a small archive of the ocean. Every passing life leaves something beautiful behind.
