Seaside tree trail

If you are Australian chances are you have spent at least one sunny Christmas (if not a life of them) on the beach in the sunshine. It’s such a beach culture and growing up in Geraldton is no different. We swam all day in the surf, BBQed and played into the balmy summer night, knowing that Santa always comes to Australia first on his trip around the world.

So it’s not everyday you get to paint your love of Christmas on a 3D tree and have it in placed in the town you grew up in’s most prominent and public location.

The City of Greater Geraldton and the Geraldton Regional Art Gallery invited 12 artists to transform wooden trees for a Christmas Tree Trail. These multi-dimensional trees featured in prime location along Marine Terrace and showcase the each artists interpretation of Christmas.

I aimed to capturing the free-spirited essence of the seaside with ocean flowing blues on a silver background. My hand-painted layers sparkled, bringing to life the celebration and my love of Christmas by the sea. Made by the sea, with the sea and for the sea I wanted the tree to also bring greater awareness and appreciation of our beautiful oceans and our need to care for them. The trees added a beautiful festive cheer to the city, such a great idea.
