Lynda Howitt’s lifelong love for the ocean is reflected in her paintings.
Her work radiates a warmth that is compelling, perhaps due to the universal qualities of her subject matter, but also because of her unique vision, in which the opposite elements of nature are successfully merged as to become a single entity.
There is a sense of weightlessness and light that embodies her work. Artworks of softly modulating hues, lifting highlights and strokes suggesting clouds or waves breaking, the sea and sky are interwoven, barely distinguishable. She has less interest in depicting specifics of nature than in evoking a sense of emotion.
Howitt explores the expression of an inner state of being, aiming to inspire the soul and awaken the inner essence of the viewer. Painting from this state of inner stillness, quietness and love she hopes to offer a bridge into your inner world.
“The tradition of Abstract Expressionism and Color Field painting can be seen in Howitt’s work. The sense of chromatic nuance, subtle gesture and lyricism makes her compositions exhilarating. There is an openness to them that creates an extraordinary resonance.”
